Artist Bio:
Samuel Burbury Hanchett grew up in the scenic village of Stony Brook, NY. He has been doing all sorts of weird art, drawing things, and paintings since he was a small youngster. Attended The Stony Brook School where, despite spending most his time playing sports, galavanting around the mess hall, and worrying if girls who liked him liked him; he also elevated his skills and passion for drawing and painting under the tutelage of Jim Zingarelli, who coached the young Hanchett to believe in the value and excitement of such a visual medium. Samuel took the ball and ran with this energy as he continued his studies at Gettysburg College where he majored in studio art. Honing his love of the abstract, he embarked on a semester abroad, studying in Florence, Italy. He ran into a bit of a wall, finding that the program mainly focussed on figure study. This did not deter him but ultimately gave skill in creating his ever-growing fascination with figures that exist in the subconscious. Since graduating from university, Samuel has embarked on an 8 year journey where he has worked with 3 different surfaces and mediums (mainly watercolors & paper, oil & canvas, and acrylic on plywood) which have resulted in many and most of the images you see on the blog. His conscious influences are music, Hokusai, and every day life.
Sam is currently working on a pending special edition album for the band Caspian with fellow artists Anna Peterson and Marika Whitaker-Bennett. He has not shown publicly, but is hoping to in the near future.
